Gedan Shuto Uke

Lower Area Knifehand Block:
The movements for this block are exactly the same as with Gedan Barai but that the blocking hand is held open (shuto/knifehand). Blocking right, the left hand prepares by blocking the groin with a fist. The right hand comes up to the ear, open (shuto). As the left hand returns to cover, the right hand swings in a semi-circular motion and stops just over the knee. The reason this is not a barai/parry is that the knifehand is intended to be a direct attack against the inside of the knee joint.
