Juji(te) Uke

Scissor Block:
In Sanban Kumite this is performed in two slightly different ways. Gedan is performed generally with closed fists and forearms facing foreward. The hands, from cover, cross each other as they both block gedan. This is somewhat like a tate ude uke. The second way of performing this is age. Again from cover the arms cross each other as they block up, often with hands in shuto position and palms forward. The idea is to block an attack aimed at the body's center line, such as yoko geri or uraken uchi, and is an alternative to blocks such as gedan barai or age uke.
